After the eggs have hatched into chicks they still require incubation. This type of incubator is called a brooder. The brooder is used to help the baby chicks develop and regulate their body temperature until they are large enough to enter the flock. There are two types of brooders used in the poultry industry all in one and free standing. These will be described below.
All in One
Contains the heat source and automated controls
Can be used for small hospital units
Large units are also available for commercial breeders
Free Standing
Consists of heating element and enclosure walls
Easy to modify
Allows chicks to roam freely
Can be used for small or large quantities
